Liam
Biography
Liam Padraic Aiken was born in New York City on January 7, 1990 to Bill Aiken (a television producer) and Moya Aiken, their first and only child. Liam's father, Bill, died from cancer when Liam was two years old. Liam's mother, Moya, encouraged Liam to start acting when he was about 4 years old, as a way to earn money for college.
It was a while before Liam recieved a role in anything, and Moya was ready to give up. Finally however, Liam got a part in a Ford Windstar commercial. In 1996 he had a part in the Broadway production of Henry Ibsen's A Doll's House. Liam soon recieved his first movie role, in 1997, in Hal Hartley's Henry Fool where he portrayed Parker Posey's son, Ned. From there he had small roles in Montana and The Object of my Affection. Liam also had his first TV role during this time in a Law & Order episode titled 'Disappeared'. In 1998, Liam was in a short, 17 minute film I Remember which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival along with Montana. In 1998 he was cast as Benjamin Harrison in Stepmom alongside Ed Harris, Julia Robets, Susan Sarandon, & Jena Malone. During this time Liam won the starring role of Cole Sear in The Sixth Sense, however Liam turned it down because his mother didn't think it was an appropriate role for his age. It instead went to Haley Joel Osment. In 2000 Liam portrayed young, blonde haired Ema in I Dreamed of Africa, which was shot in Africa with Eva Marie Saint & Kim Basinger. By 2001, Liam had played neighborhood kid Abner in Sweet November alongside Keanu Reeves & Charlize Theron and had a small role in The Rising Place. From here, Liam appeared alongside such greats as Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, Jude Law, & Daniel Craig in Road to Perdition as the doomed youngest son, Peter Sullivan. During this time, Liam also had an appearance on Law & Order: Criminal Intent in the episode 'Bright Boy'.
In 2000, Liam was nearly handed the lead role of Harry in the Harry Potter movie book adaptations. The first two were directed by Christopher Columbus who had previously worked with Liam on Stepmom and took an instant liking to Liam. However, the author of the series, J.K. Rowling, refused to have an American play Harry and the role instead went to Daniel Radcliffe. In place of Harry Potter, Liam won the role of dog-walker Owen Baker in the movie Good Boy!. Liam recieved a miniature Italian greyhound from the movie crew which he named Kes and even filmed one of the scenes for the film (however it was cut from the film).
In 2004, Liam was cast as Klaus Baudelaire in Lemony Snicket's 'A Series of Unfortunate Events'. The film was based on the first 3 novels of the series, written by the mysterious Lemony Snicket. The film was nominated for a few Oscars, and Liam was nominated for "Best Leading Male" at the 2005 Young Actor Awards & for "Best Young Actor" at the 2005 Critics Choice Awards. Liam is most commonly recognized for this role.
In 2006, Liam appeared again as an aged Ned Grim in Fay Grim, a sequel to his first movie role Henry Fool. It premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. In 2007 Liam appeared in another episode of Law & Order playing a kidnapped teenager who killed a little boy. Liam considers this one of his proudest roles and "a real learning experience".
In 2005 Liam was cast in Airborn. However, because of complications with the script, the movie was never made and the production company has since lost rights to the movie. In 2007, Liam was rumoured to by in a film called The Emancipation of Jonny with Hilary Duff & Sandra Oh. However the film was proved to be a hoax and was not real. In 2008 Liam recieved the title role of Will Burton in 2009's Will alongside Lisa Kudrow, David Bowie, Vanessa Hudgens, & Aly Michalka. However, Liam dropped out of the film for unknown reasons at the last minute and the role instead went to newcomer Gaelan Connell.
Liam currently lives in New Jersey. He enjoys skateboarding, dancing, wearing cowboy boots and playing the guitar and drums. Liam makes guitars in his uncle's warehouse and aspires to play like Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello. Liam has been in a few bands, his most recent being Saint Levi who broke up in 2007. Currently, Liam is part of the class of 2008 and would like to go to film school for directing.
